Best...husband...EVER!

I just wanted to say how remarkable my husband is. I need to be better about remembering that. Here's a good example. Tonight around 9pm, my dad called because he needed me to pick my mom and him up after he blew two tires driving home from dinner. I panicked and ran out the door to get them. They were fine, just irritated about the problem, so I was relieved. Unfortunately, between my elderly parents and pregnant me, none of us were able to change the tire. Even if we could have, we needed two spares. So I drove them to their house, and we discussed a plan to get it towed in the morning and have me take him to pick it up. When I got home and told DH what had happened, he started thinking of solutions (his forte). He and his friend devised a plan to put the donut on tonight, take the bad tire with him tomorrow and after work get a new one to replace the other flat, and then Dad can drive the car to the shop to get another new one to replace the donut. No need to tow! So sweet of them - it's 10pm. I am very blessed to have such a wonderful husband (with such a great friend).

The Library

Last night, we had a showing so we went to the library to kill time. DH needed to do homework (he's in school for his Master's), so he was studying on the quiet side of the library, and I took S to the kids' side. We were playing with the blocks and doing puzzles and a librarian came and asked if we wanted to come to the bilingual story time. I thought that would be fun, but S didn't want to go, so I told her we might stop in after it started, but I wasn't sure she'd be able to sit still for it anyway. So after awhile we heard talking and I asked S if she wanted to listen to the story. We walked in the direction of the reading room, but it's across from a train table, so she started playing with the trains. Then I finally got her to look over to the room, and she saw a little girl in there ("Baby!"), and walked over to the door. Mind you, there was only one little girl and her parents. No one else has shown up for the reading. The little girl saw S and the train and wanted to go play. The parents were trying to keep her in, I was trying to either get S in to sit and listen, or out to leave them all alone. It ended with the other little girl coming out to the train table and me apologizing for us disrupting story time. Had we been able to go home yet, I would have just left, but we were stuck there for another 15 min. No one was upset about it, but I was a little embarrassed.

Another surprising thing S did last night was when we were snuggling in bed before she went to sleep. I have been saying her nighttime prayers with her for awhile now, but haven't started Grace with her yet. We were laying in bed and she was jabbering away as usual, and I heard her say, "God is good. God is good. Good is good." I looked over and in the dark I could see her little hands clasped together, so I asked her, "Are you saying 'God is good', like 'God is great, God is good, let us thank him for our food'?", and she did her little giggle that means yes. So cute! I think the sitter must be having them pray before lunch.

Cute Stuff

S is so full of cute things now, it's hard for me to remember them all. She amazes me daily with new phrases. Yesterday we were watching the birds (one of her favorite things to watch, next to the mowers), and she said "Flew away. All gone." Her first full sentence with a subject and a predicate, though, was "I toot." Daddy was so proud. I'm not sure where she got this from, but she started saying "guys" - she calls her stuffed animals her guys, or groups of people guys, etc. But she says it in her little high-pitched voice, and it's adorable.

She still loves to buckle (she says snap) her highchair straps, and today it was so funny because she said, "Oh snap!" A phrase she's been saying for awhile now is "Sit down!" so I imagine she's hearing that a lot at Papa's. :) Tonight when we were laying down for bed, she was playing with her baby doll and saying what I thought sounded like, "Becky, Becky, rolll back!" I finally figured out she was clapping the doll's hands together and trying to sing "Patty Cake, Patty Cake, roll, pat!"

Which brings me to her next favorite thing - playing in her bed. We have some concerns because the rails are 2.5" beyond the edge of the mattress on each side, which worries us because all the weight of the bed is on the 3 cross slats. So we're trying to decide if we need to just get a new bed but that means a whole new bedroom set which is a crazy hassle. So DH is going to see if there's anything he can do to fix it. She loves snuggling in the bed and pretending to sleep in it, so I really want to get her sleeping in it soon while she's still small enough that she needs help getting in, and I can hopefully keep her from getting out.

She still loves to clean, and she's such a big help when I try to do all the dusting and window cleaning. She follows behind me, and I give her her own rag and paper towel, and she happily scrubs away.

My Auntie M and Uncle B came to town from Manitoba this weekend, so it was great to see them. S was a little timid at first and she was hiding behind me on the couch and I asked her what she was doing and she said, "Shy". It surprised me and was very cute.

Spring?

I know it's been forever since I've posted. We had a big snow storm the last weekend in March, and S just loved talking about it. She didn't get to play in it much since she's outgrown all of her real winter clothes, and despite Mother Nature dragging the season out this year, I've refused to buy more for just another week or so.

She has truly been brainwashed, poor kid. She points out Jayhawks wherever we go and now she can sing Rock Chalk. :)

We dyed Easter eggs a couple of weeks ago, and she really enjoyed it, and we managed to avoid any major spillage/stains. She ended up dying more last Monday at the sitters with the other kids and was happy to have more to add to her pile. Then we made Rice Krispie treat eggs and a duck which, of course, she loved eating.

I pulled an April Fool's prank this year, which I haven't done for awhile. DH was a little tense about cash that week because we owed car tags, insurance, taxes, etc. all at the beginning of April in addition to our usual first of the month big bills like the mortgage. I was supposed to get paid Tuesday since it was the last day of the month, but the accountant was out, so DH was NOT happy to hear I didn't get my check that day. So on the first, I told DH I still didn't get it, and that they told us they were going to change it to once a month paychecks on the 15th. He was all upset and ranting, and I finally told him I was teasing - I had gotten paid the day before and had already deposited it. :)

DH's sister, E, came to town last week so he got to go with her to Aunt MP's and golf on Wednesday. Then they came home and his other sister and her kids and his parents all joined us all for dinner at our house when we announced the big news to them. Sunday we went to a Passion play that DH's boss was in - I was so thankful we were able to go to church! Then we went to the DH's big family Easter dinner at the barn. It was raining so we had to do everything inside, but it was still fun. S did 2 egg hunts - the first one she didn't really get and wasn't very interested in, but the second time, she was running around like crazy. It was very cute. She wouldn't nap and had a little fit before dinner so I thought we were going to have to leave early, but she settled down and ended up having a great time.

It's been raining for the last two days, but at least it's not snow. I think spring may finally be here.....
